Bone Grafting

Why would I need a bone graft?

A jawbone must have enough support for a dental implant to be successful. If you are considering implants, your dentist may recommend bone grafting if you do not have the bone support your tooth needs to heal.

What is a bone graft or bone augmentation?

Bone grafting, or augmentation, is the process of adding bone or other material to the implant placement area. Typically, this takes several months to heal and fuse with your existing jaw bone. After that, your dentist will place the dental implant in your mouth.

Gum Therapy

If you have been diagnosed with periodontal (gum) disease, our team at Riverview Dentistry can help you control the disease and prevent it from progressing in most cases.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease may show no symptoms in its early stages. We may perform an examination through x-rays and a periodontal probe to measure bone levels around the teeth. When bone levels fall, the gums pull away from the tooth, forming a pocket.

Early periodontal disease will cause pockets to form. Healthy gums are tight against the teeth, and there aren’t any pockets. In general, the deeper the pockets, the greater the spread of periodontal disease.

Your x-rays tell us a lot about your periodontal disease. In a healthy mouth, the bone will come up high around the neck of the tooth and is even throughout the mouth. In advanced periodontal disease, the bone level is much lower than in a healthy mouth.

The type of gum therapy treatment you receive will depend on the severity of your gum disease. Our dentists will do a thorough assessment and create a personalized treatment plan based on your needs. If the disease is caught early enough, we will recommend maintaining a good home care routine combined with regular cleanings.
